WordCloud

Word Cloud creates a live visualization of the words you speak on stream, powered by OBS closed captions. A settings page connects to OBS WebSocket and Twitch, an overlay page renders the cloud in a browser source, and you and your mods can show, hide, reshuffle, or reset it with Twitch chat commands. Twitch access is read-only, so no messages are sent on your behalf.

Platforms: OBS browser source, Web
Product page: desertice.tech/products/wordcloud

Who it’s for: Streamers who talk on stream and want their spoken words visualized live

  • Live word cloud built from your stream captions
  • Reads captions from OBS’s Closed Captions plugin text source via OBS WebSocket
  • Twitch chat commands for you and mods: !wc show, !wc hide, !wc regen, !wc reset
  • Source discovery so you can pick the caption text source from a list
  • Read-only Twitch authorization; no messages are sent on your behalf
  • Settings and overlay pair kept in the same browser for persistence
  • Debug status overlay via ?debug=1 on the overlay URL
  • Redirects to Settings if OBS stays disconnected for 60 seconds
  • OBS Studio with the Closed Captions via Google Speech Recognition plugin installed
  • A text source in OBS where the captions plugin writes
  • OBS WebSocket enabled (usually ws://localhost:4455, with its password if set)
  • Open Settings and the overlay in the same browser so saved settings carry over
  • A Twitch account for the read-only chat and mod-list connection
  1. Install the Closed Captions via Google Speech Recognition plugin in OBS
  2. In the plugin settings, choose a Text Source where captions will appear (you can hide this source off-screen)
  3. Open the Settings page at word-cloud-virid.vercel.app/settings
  4. Enter your OBS WebSocket URL and password
  5. Click Discover Sources and select the text source your captions plugin writes to
  6. Click Save
  7. Click Connect to Twitch to authorize read-only chat and mod-list access
  8. In OBS, add a Browser Source pointing to the overlay URL and position it in your scene
  1. Keep Settings and the overlay in the same browser (e.g. both in Chrome); saved settings do not carry across browsers
  2. If the site is served over HTTPS, OBS WebSocket may need a secure (wss) connection too; check your OBS WebSocket settings
  3. Add ?debug=1 to the overlay URL to see connection status on screen
  • !wc show shows the word cloud
  • !wc hide hides it
  • !wc regen or !wc regenerate shuffles the layout
  • !wc reset or !wc clear starts fresh with no words
  • You and your mods can run these commands from chat

Make sure you opened Settings and the Overlay in the same browser so the saved connection is available.

If you’re using the secure (HTTPS) version of the site, OBS WebSocket may need a secure connection as well; check your OBS WebSocket settings.

If OBS stays disconnected for 60 seconds, the overlay sends you back to Settings so you can fix the connection.

No. Connecting Twitch grants read-only access to your chat and mod list; no messages are sent on your behalf.
